At ICTMA-22 – a leading international conference on the teaching and learning of mathematical modelling, held this year in Linköping, Sweden between 10-15 of August 2025 – Prof. Zehavit Kohen’s research group presented three innovative studies.
Dr. Ortal Nitzan-Tamar, a researcher in the group, presented a study conducted in collaboration with Prof. Kohen and Prof. Siller from the University of Würzburg, Germany. The study focused on the differentiated adaptation of modelling tasks for heterogeneous classrooms by tailoring the pedagogical scaffolding provided at each phase of the modelling process.
Another study was presented by Orit Cohen-Nissan, a PhD student in Prof. Kohen’s group, which proposed a new approach for developing modelling competencies by transitioning from structured modelling to an iterative process involving multiple modelling phases, embedded in authentic scientific and engineering contexts.
The third study, presented by Hadas Handelman, also a PhD student in the group, examined how extra-mathematical knowledge (EMK) supports the modelling process within an engineering-based inquiry project in STEM classrooms.
